David F. Hubbard was born in New Jersey. He graduated Amherst College (Massachusetts) in 1987 with a B.A. in Political Science and went to the University of Iowa for law school, where he obtained his J.D. in 1991.
Mr. Hubbard passed the New York Bar Exam in 1991, but after one last long winter, drove across the country to Southern California. He took and passed the California Bar Exam in 1992 and began looking for work.
Mr. Hubbard's first job was as a research attorney assisting San Bernardino County Superior Court judges. This job afforded him an inside look at how the courts considered and ruled on matters. Mr. Hubbard then went to Los Angeles for several years to hold accountable those insurance companies which had facilitated workers' compensation fraud at the expense of small and mid-sized businesses.
Mr. Hubbard returned to the Riverside area to work for many years at a local firm that specialized in eminent domain -- on both sides -- sometimes representing public agencies and other times representing business and property owners. After a while, Mr. Hubbard worked almost exclusively for property owners and business owners who were being forced to move and / or sell their businesses or properties.
Mr. Hubbard has enjoyed many successes in his career, including published opinions from the Court of Appeal and the California Supreme Court. Just a couple of years ago, the California Supreme Court granted review of a petition Mr. Hubbard submitted which promoted enhanced rights for property owners confronted by eminent domain. Many of the changes Mr. Hubbard proposed in his petition have subsequently appeared in statutes and statewide propositions.
The most rewarding result for Mr. Hubbard is a satisfied client. So many people have walked into an initial meeting with Mr. Hubbard intimidated by the powers wielded by public officials and their representatives. Mr. Hubbard reveals: "One of my greatest joys is turning a client's initial fear into a calm confidence by the end of that first meeting. I want my clients to leave the initial meeting assured that they have found someone who has the capacity and the tenacity to protect their rights and ensure that they are treated fairly in the eminent domain process."
